Vancouver’s Alex Cooper and Justice McLellan may be a mystery to most at the moment but its clear from their emergent electronic Mesa Luna project that they have the ability to write beautiful soundscapes that unfold slowly, enchanting you towards something more danceable, more understandable.
Shutting Down is 5 minutes of glorious lo-fi production with a cinematic scope. Its only after repeated listens that you begin to comprehend the brilliance of this song, recalling the muffled vocal nostalgia of Casiotone For The Painfully Alone’s Owen Ashworth, and the spectral magnitude of Holy Fuck.
An outstanding piece of work.
