Manchester based Jasmine Cruickshank, who records under the name jasmine.4.t, is the newest signee to Phoebe Bridgers’ record label Saddest Factory and if that ain’t enough to make you sit up and take notice, new single Skin On Skin was produced by bridgers along with Boygenius bandmates Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus.
Of course, having that sort of creative strength behind her, could be both a blessing and a curse, bringing an increased level of audience expectation, along with a sense of intrigue. “Being signed by Phoebe Bridgers is immediately going to open me up to a wider audience,” she says in a press release. “I take it seriously, just to be a visible trans woman role model in music, because there aren’t that many, and there should be more.”
As the music industry slowly eats itself in algorithms, finding an authentic new voice in a sea of shit is the reason I still love music after all these years.
So let’s talk about the music and fuck me what a beautiful composition to introduce yourself with, both staggeringly ambitious and undeniably intimate. The kind of song you want to drown out a noisy world with and keep all to yourself.
